DRIVE INFORMATION FOR DEFCON 32

If you're looking to capture and share all of the DefCon talks and everything else on infocon.org, just drop by the DDV during DefCon, drop off your storage and we’ll provide you with everything you need.

DRIVE SIZE ALERT!!

A quick heads up for all those returning back to the DDV this year. Some of our content now requires an 8TB drive to duplicate. We’ve kept most of our content to 6TB but some rainbow tables are just too damn big! Make sure you get the drive you need for the data you’re looking for.

HOW IT WORKS

DEF CON provides a core set of drive duplicators and data content options. It will be a first come, first served and duplicate 'till we run out of power. Bring in SATA3 blank drives (6TB or larger depending on the data source) and check them in with us to get the data you want. Come back in about 24 hours to pick up your data-packed drive. Space allowing, we'll accept drives until Saturday morning.

WHAT YOU GET

We're working out the details until the last minute but it will be similar to what was provided for DC30 with the usual annual updates:

WHAT YOU NEED

6TB or 8TB SATA3 7200rpm drives - one for each source or copy.  Larger drives (8TB, 10TB, etc…) are totally acceptable. Be sure they are bare drives (no enclosures/adapters). If you want a full copy of all the content you will need 5 drives!

WHEN TO BE WHERE

The earlier the better.  We accept drives on a FIFO basis and can't always complete everything.  Check the full schedule for village dates and hours.

SIDE NOTES

  • Be aware that we cleared all the Vegas area stores of every single 6TB drive every year we’ve been open.  Plan ahead and get your drives early!

  • Duplicating a 6TB (About 5.46 usable) drive at an average of 120 Megabytes a second comes out to just under 14 hours per drive (8TBs take about 17 hours).

  • Only one source can be put on an individual drive. When we put a source on a drive, it replaces any/all previous content on the drive.

  • With all of our duplicators going, we can duplicate almost 130 drives concurrently.

  • We push data out to the drives for 72 hours straight.

  • Every year we hope to break our previous records. We had room to do even more last year. Did you get your data?

  • We track our drive details and you can see what we did in the “Past Cons” briefings.

We include these details in the DC Forum thread and you are encouraged to ask any questions you have there or reach out to us on twitter (@ddv_dc)

See you in Vegas!
